Single parent adoption is filled with twists and turns, and we can network with help and advice to share through our varied experiences. The SEEA-L mailing list is for SINGLE parents who are involved in adoption from Eastern Europe. We encourage single persons considering the pre-adoption process to join our list for support and information regarding Eastern European adoption. We also want the "veteran" single parents who have already completed the Eastern European adoption process to share their experiences and issues. Single parent adoption is filled with twists and turns, and we can network with help and advice to share through our varied experiences. SEEA-L is designed to provide access to information and resources that will assist single adoptive parents and parents-to-be in raising their chil dren.

Single adoptive parenting is a journey that is different from other types of families, either biological or adoptive. We differ from two-parent families because there is only one parent to rely on; we differ from other single parents because we have chosen to become parents through adoption. We hope that the list will provide another networking opportunity for single adoptive parents who are forming their families through Eastern European adoption.

Topics that are discussed include aspects of single adoptive parenting such as creating a family as a single parent, developing support systems, meeting family resistance, developing financial and psychological resources, taking care of one's self, balancing work and parenting, dating, and finding opposite-sex role models. Obviously, the myriad issues involved with Eastern European adoption will also appear: cultural differences, adapting a child to a new family and to a new culture, dealing with physical and mental health issues, disci pline, attachment, bonding, adopting siblings or more than once, and parenting issues in general.
